Original Thain
Characters up to level 20, characters up to level 30 with exceptional role play. (Decided by the DMs)
Role Play oriented, any style accepted.
Dark Thain
Characters up to level 40, no need to impress someone to have fun playing the game.
Role Play oriented, play however you want.
Original Thain
Thain does not mechanically support subraces at this time. You must check with a DM before creating a non-standard subrace (i.e., tiefling, drow, duergar, vampires, half-fiends, liches, also aasimar, avariel, celestial, etc.), whether that subrace is actually entered in the sub-race field during creation or not. The DMs reserve the right to veto a request to play a non-standard subrace. Staff-approved characters that are a non-standard subrace which are removed from the vault due to inactivity will not be automatically restored upon request--the player must re-apply. Please remember that Monstrous Player Characters (MPCs) will be treated as monsters on Thain in every way and will be expected to be played appropriately!
Dark Thain
Dark Thain supports any subrace your mind can dream up, without restarting the server. You do not have to ask a DM or anyone else before creating a non-standard race. You do not need to enter in any subrace name into the subrace field you can select it during play. (soon to come, changing from one subrace and race at will). DMs will not harrass you about your choice to play a non standard race. No characters will ever be removed from the vault due to inactivity, there are no limits on how many characters you can have. MPCs on Dark Thain are treated differently depending on where they are and who they meet... you should role play your character like any other character... well.
Original Thain
To play a chromatic dragon disciple other than red, put the following in your sub-race field at character creation: Black, Blue, Green, Red (alt wing color), or White; no permission required. To play a metallic dragon disciple you can set the sub-race field to: Brass, Bronze, Copper, Gold, or Silver. Breath weapons and wing colours are automatically scripted and on reaching level 10 of RDD you can gain the resistance that matches your base dragon subrace.
Dark Thain
No change yet, but this may change. (TBD)
Original Thain
Note that the rules for PvP involving MPCs is different; MPCs are kill-on-sight like any other monster in the game. Read the PvP FAQ entry for details.
Dark Thain
PvP here is a bit more strict than thain, in that we have tools that enforce griefing rules built into the world... if both sides don't agree to the battle it can still happen, but with steep penalties to the person that didn't get permission from the opposing side.
EVERYONE here is KILL ON SITE somewhere, we don't play favorites... There aren't yet, but soon will be places here like there are on mystrix where races will not be allowed (I.E. KOS) as well as quests that can not be done by some races.
There are good trolls and bad trolls, good humans and bad humans. This is natures way.
In other words, WE DISCRIMINATE AGAINST EVERYONE, EQUALLY.
Original Thain
Many players feel it is immersion breaking to have a child running about with the same adventuring ability as an adult. We ask players of Child PCs keep this in mind when roleplaying a child. While Thain does not require an application for a child PC, we do limit their progression and abilities, so please advise a DM if you're playing one.
Dark Thain
A child on Dark Thain will gain no levels, and have no adventuring abilities (aside from level 1) until they grow up... and yes we have systems for animals and PCs growing up. Any child swinging a sword will be just that, a child swinging a sword, risking killing themselves or worse.
Original Thain
Applications for MPC's should be sent to an active staff member.
Note:
-When you decide to apply, PM a staff member with your application. Include, at minimum, the race you want to play, what you would need from the Staff (ie: appearances, model replacements), and a description of your character. The staff will vote based on how much we like the application and approve it or not.
-If possible, your application should explain not only what the character is, but who they are. Why do you feel this character would be fun for others to interact with, and why the character needs an NSS slot to work. We try to avoid approving applications that only want visual fluff and attention. We're looking for characters that would contribute to the server and that need to be a monster in order to work. Telling us about your character and the kind of stories you have in mind can only help your chances of getting approved.
-Note that "monstrous" creatures are almost always set hostile to guard factions on creation. This makes playing an MPC challenging in both mechanics and roleplay. A lot of MPCs burn out early due to the difficulty of finding RP with this restriction, so make sure you know what you're getting into before you apply.
-If you already have an NSS character who has been archived, you'll need to go through this same process in order to get the character restored. If you want to bring back an old NSS, send in an app in the usual way.
Dark Thain
This just doesn't apply to Dark Thain... Dark Thain uses The Virtual World of Mystrix Core... most things are automated, we have plenty of storage (grows monthly) for your characters, houses, pets and more. People who try to abuse this system to find the limits will be banned. Purposeful misuse of the systems is a banable offence... this is your warning there will be no other.
Original Thain
No horses, no Paladin War Horses.
Pets.
Dark Thain
Horses, Paladin War Horses.
Pets. Please note: our pets are completely different from Original Thain's pets... Our pets are tamed and trained, meaning you can tame a dragon as well as other things, and have them as pets. You can sell and trade or release your pets as well.
Original Thain
Uses Bioware's crafting system, might be a little modified (I've not looked into it myself, I disliked the system).
Must make a "Crafting Character" and waste valuable skill points in biowares crafting skills.
Must Role Play for a DM and have 15 points in the crafting skill of your choice and be given a "Crafting Token" to make anything.
DM decides what you have made.
Some things are craftable directly out of the bioware inventory system they use for crafting but I've heard it's not as good as getting something from a DM.
Dark Thain
Custom crafting.
This system has the ability to modify recipes while everyone is playing, as this happens the recipes on the crafting stations are modified instantly, the recipes can be viewed directly on the items you wish to make. Recipes are also instantly updated on the website (website is coming soon, like the mystrix website has)
You do not need to take bioware crafting skills, you do not need to find a DM to make something... find all of the things required to make the item you wish and practice making it.
Completely Customizable Gear. That's right, no one size fits all recipes... if you make it, it's probably unique to you... no one else has it.
Your name is etched into everything you make so everyone will know where they got it from to come back for more.
Every character is a "Crafting Character" but every character will be good in different crafts, based on how they were built.
